How My Life Has Changed
I guess you could say I have earned the braggin rights to my new life. April 19th 1991 I was
standing in the backyard of a recovery home I was staying at, and getting ready to go get my first pay check in recovery. I had 5 1/2 months clean and sober,
and I was in a lot of pain. I wanted to use more than anything and I had already hooked up with a guy in the program that did the same drug of choice as I did
and he would not be hard to convince as he was also new and a constant relapser.
I did not believe in God and was angry, alone, and today know very afraid. I screamed without even thinking about it...God if you are, whoever you are, wherever you are I can not do this again. I went in and fell asleep and woke up and something was different. I could not even make myself want to use or drink. When the director of the recovery home came home that night, I went in and told him what happened. He was reading the newspaper and smiled He started reading my horospcope for that day. It read "You come out unscathed from a spiritual awakening that cannot be denied"!!!! I cut it out and pasted it in my 12 and 12 and still have it to this day. Oh forgot to add..it also said "Love with a Libra" nope never happened...and after 16 years with my husband and better than ever doubt it will.
So...below are pictures of my life today. I was married in the program, we are best friends and both in recovery. Got a new family and grand kids. Have one son that I doubt will give me grankids he is gun shy of relationships and for good cause; he was more in 18 years than most kids will or ever should see. He turned out exceptionally well considering. So we are blessed to have them all in our lives. We have a beautiful home, and when I got here that was all gone and I had one pink duffle bag to my name.
And my children now. My Persian babies. They are our laughter, our hearts, and a gift from God. I could not have taken care of a Gerbal before getting "Clean and Sober"
Our beautiful car. When I got here I could not have imagined getting anything again let alone new car. Because the program has taught me to be accountable, honest and that I never have to use or drink again unless I choose to we have credit..a thing that this girl never had unless it was someone elses credit card...
So yes I am proud not grandiose or braggart but very humbled that God did for me what I could not do for myself. And if you think your life is over...it just may well be. I asked God that I did not believe in, to take my life as I did not want to live anymore. Be careful what you ask for. He took my life...and gave me a new one.
Please talk to us before your life may not be reprievable... We will be there for you and you never ever have to be alone again.

I woke up today full of serenity, joy and gratitude
for another day of sobriety. I have a little bit of
nostalgic feeling with the snow that came last night
just enough for it to be melted again by the sunshine
today. As I paused and spent some quiet time to
receive the word from my Higher Power about this
nature phenomena, my sober heart and mind zero in
the truth of life as just a passing white snow. I thank
Higher Power today for the opportunity to enjoy the
fleeting beauty of the snowcapped mountains where I
am and the courage and faith to let of my attachment
to let it stay as it is melting down. Thanks for letting me
share this to you! - Bobby S.
